Francis Xavier Pasion, multi-awarded director, was found dead in his house in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
According to Joji Alonso, the producer of Pasion’s film entries “Sampaguita” and “Bwaya” on Cinemalaya, the director was not responding to his calls and texts, and this caused him to get worried. It was later learned that Pasion was discovered lifeless in the bathroom by his parents.
Based on the initial findings of PNP SOCO, Pasion died of cardiac arrest. He was 38 years old.
“He has been having chest pains which is why he went to Cardinal Santos Medical Center to undergo a medical exam” said Alonso.
Pasion rose to critical acclaim when his film “Bwaya” scored the Best Film in the New Breed, Best in Cinematography, and Best Original Score awards at the 10th Cinemalaya Film Festival.
His film “Jay” also won Best Film, Best Editing, and the Balanghai Trophy at the same film fest, not to mention awards from other film festivals in Venice, Berlin, and Busan.
Pasion’s TV works also became household names, including TV soaps such as “Dyesebel,” “My Binondo Girl,” “Princess and I,” “Nathaniel,” and his most recent project, “On the Wings of Love.”
Pasion’s death came just a week after fellow film auteur Wenn Deramas died of the same cause on 29 February.
