Bangkok, Thailand- An Australian actor suspected of bombing a Hindu shrine in Bangkok voluntary turned himself in to the authorities to defend his innocence.
Sunny Burns, a 26-year-old actor and model, immediately gained notoriety when his Facebook photos were compared to the description of the alleged man who left a bomb at the said area on Tuesday, which left 22 people dead.
“You have no idea about the trauma and how scared I was,” he said on his Facebook account, after going to the police. “Many social media outlets released my photo in Thailand saying I was a suspected terrorist as I looked like the suspect in question.”
Burns also received some online backlash after taking a selfie during the police interrogation, but he said that he was only protecting himself.
“I’m not a terrorist and the photo of the terrorist looks nothing like me,” he continued to say on Facebook. “I would never wear those clothing-I’m a fashion blogger… I’ll keep you posted but please pray for Thailand. I’m Australian and we are battlers… I still love you Thailand.”
The Thai police has since released a cartographic sketch of the actual suspect, and issued an arrest warrant for the “unidentified foreign man” spotted by the CCTV camera installed at the shrine. A reward of one million baht has also been offered to those who can lead the authorities to the arrest of the said bomber.
