EASTERN VISAYAS— Military on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, encountered communist rebels in Burauen Leyte. The fire fight occurred 2:45 pm of that day around the boundary of Brgy. Candag-on and Brgy. Roxas in Burauen Leyte, which is said to be the rebel group’s encampment site.
One soldier from the side of the military was wounded while it is undetermined how many were wounded from the rebels. An estimated 50 enemies were encountered by the military which lasted 45-minutes before the enemies finally retreated to the forest.
A day before the said encounter, the same 78th Infantry Battalion encountered a rebel group in a foot patrol where they came across their encampment. They recovered from this operation documents containing subversion plans and a sack of rice.
Hot pursuits against the group are still on while the encampment area has now been recovered by the military.
Burauen is said to be one of the hot spots of NPA sitings in the province including Carigara, Jaro, Albuera, Mahaplag, Baybay City, and Hilongos.
