An earthquake with magnitude 6.9 shook the coast of the Sarangani province on January 12, 2016.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake was located at approximately 249 km southeast off the province’s coast at 12:38, January 12 (Tuesday).

PHILVOLCS added that the earthquake was tectonic in nature and its epicenter was recorded at 101.6 km deep (63.1miles).

There are no tsunami warnings advised by the PHILVOCS after the earthquake but they cautioned the residents about the possible aftershocks.

Up to now, there have been no reports of any casualties or damage to properties.
