A 500,000-peso reward is to be given to anyone who can pinpoint the suspect in the rape-slay of Karen Kaye Montelbo.
In a text message, Mayor Paz Radaza of Lapu-lapuCity, said that the said reward is offered in order to speed up the resolution of the case.
Montelbo, a freshman accountancy student at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, made headlines during the week after her body was found under her bed by her father in the afternoon of September 15. The 17-year-old was later discovered to be raped and brutally choked by a still unknown perpetrator, which caused her death.
Persons of interest have been identified by the authorities, but the Lapu-lapu City Police (LLCPO) have not provided any details to the public yet. Senior Supt. Armando Radoc, LLCPO chief, said that the suspect may have already slipped out of the city.
The National Bureau of Investigation Region 7 has likewise started their manhunt for the culprit, together with the LLCPO. Montelbo’s gadgets are also now in the hands of the authorities, in the hopes to find clues leading to her killer.
Meanwhile, the USC community has held simultaneous prayer vigils in its different campuses for Montelbo and her family.
