DAVAO, Philippines – A ranking police officer in the Davao region was charged with murder on Wednesday for the June 12 killing of hotelier Richard King.
Superintendent Leonardo Felonia, who surrendered late Monday to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, is one of the four suspects charged of the crime, RGMA’s Raul Tolibas reported on dzBB radio.
Felonia was relieved from his post as head of the Philippine National Police’s Regional Intelligence Office and placed under restriction. He was also ordered to report to the national headquarters for investigation, the RGMA report said.
The police officer had presented himself to Duterte for “voluntary investigation.”
Charged along with Felonia were alleged gunman Paul Labang, 24; and brothers Rommel and Rodel dela Cerna.
Labang was arrested Sunday and confessed about the crime and sought forgiveness from King’s family, GMA Davao reported.
He also claimed that Felonia contracted his services to gun down King.
King’s relatives and Duterte had offered a P1.3-million reward in exchange for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
King reportedly owns the Crown Regency Group of Hotels.
