MANILA – Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 271 denied the plea of Cedric Lee, Simeon “Zimmer” Palma Raz and Deniece Cornejo to stay in their respective detention cells, paving the way for their transfer to a regular jail.
In the resolution that denied the motion, Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes said that their continued stay at the NBI or the CIDG “without any basis would be against the law.”
Lee and Raz earlier said that they preferred being under the custody of the NBI because they feared being targeted by the inmates in a city jail.s
However, the resolution stated that the claims of threat to the lives of the accused are without merit, noting that based on inspections and interviews, the Taguig RTC has found that regular inmates didn’t particularly hate Cornejo, Lee, or Raz.
Lee and Raz are detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila, while Cornejo is under the custody of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group at Camp Crame, Quezon City.
