Last Monday, President Duterte visited the Grand Islamic Mosque in Marawi days after it was recovered by government troops from the Maute group that attacked the City.

Together with the President is Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson, who is now being criticized due to her social media post showing that she is not wearing hijab, a head covering worn by Muslim women as visible sign of their faith, and for still wearing her boots on upon entering the Mosque.

Lanao del Sur Provincial Peace and Order Council Zia Alonto Adiong, who was also with the President when they visited the Mosque, also denounced her for taking a selfie with her boots on inside the Mosque.

However, Mocha Uson defended herself by posting an edited video from GMA News that was reported by Jessica Soho and calling it as “fake news”.

The video contains the original video from what actually happened inside the Mosque. She also clarified that she didn’t intend to disrespect the Mosque for she was only filming President Duterte visiting the battle zone in Marawi.

However, Uson apologized to the Muslims for not wearing hijab and for not removing her shoes upon entering the Mosque.
