The year’s widely-acclaimed historical flick, “Heneral Luna,” gains another accolade, after being chosen to be the country’s entry to the 88th Academy Awards in 2016. The film is nominated under the Best Foreign Language Film category, as announced on its Facebook page on Monday, 21 Sept.
Executive producer Fernando Ortigas and producer E.A. Rocha both feel that the movie, which cost Php 70 million, deserves to be the Philippines’ bet to the prestigious awards show.
Nine films from various countries around the world will be selected for the Academy Awards, five of which will be competing for the Oscar trophy. The winner will be announced on 14 January 2016.
“Heneral Luna” is the movie adaptation of the life of General Antonio Luna, one of the country’s revolutionary heroes.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 28 February 2016.
