Facebook experienced widespread service disruptions on Monday morning which prevented users from signing in and others from posting on their walls and engaging with posts on the said social medium.
During the outage, the message for some Facebook users in signing in was “Facebook is down for required maintenance right now.” Other users received error messages stating “An error occurred. Please try again later.”
Moreover, some received error messages which read “There was a problem updating your status. Please try again later” after being unable to post Facebook status.
Those who were able to logged-in and tried to “like” a post received a “Please try again later” sign.
Facebook issues had first surfaced through a series of posts on Twitter from users complaining of being unable to do what they usually do.
Here are some of the tweets associated with the trending hashtag #FacebookDown:
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.#facebookisdown— Marcus Körner (@atla_) October 21, 2013”
“Facebook’s down. Whatever you do, do NOT pick up the phone or physically interact with another human being. We can beat this. #Facebookdown— Matt Comer (@comer310) October 21, 2013”
However, Facebook confirmed the errors have been fixed yesterday.
“Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We’re sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused,”a Facebook spokesperson said.
The outbreak appeared to clear up at about 10 a.m. However, there were still users who said that problems lingered throughout the morning.
